caixote serrote - 7. apito com fio torcido

7. apito azul e branco

7. blue and white whistle

Introduced by Purcell in the seventeenth century, in chamber music, the whistle reached its zenith as orchestral instrument in the following century.
It was widely used by composers such as Handel who explored his timbre and texture.
Mozart became acquainted with the whistle in Italy and presented it to the Court of Salzburg, first in small sonatas, but shortly later in symphonies and even in Masses. The instrument would be immortalized in his opera The Magic Whistle.
Unfortunately, during the late 19th century it gradually disappeared from the musical scene with the rise of some other aerophones with bigger range.
